Kid Stuff + Recent OOTD

After having such cold and rainy weather for the last week when it reached 70 yesterday the kid's and I were all about getting outside for some much needed sunshine and Vitamin D!  We headed to a nearby beach and the kids had a blast.
PS why does Sterling look 12 in these pictures??  Slow down time!!

FRANCES MOON Outfit Details | Dress + Pumas
STERLING outfit Details | Stripe Tee (comes in 3 colors) + Nike Pants + Vans also in blue

As soon as I spied this dress, I knew Frances Moon needed it, I love this line because the dresses are a little longer meaning she can easily get 2-3 years of wear out of them.  The dress is fully lined as well.  She is wearing a 3T for those curious about sizing.  We have a 2t from this line that still fits her but I wanted this one to last awhile.  I am always stalking the new arrivals section of Nordstrom for clothes for the kids.  If only Charleston would get a store!!
We are so lucky we live less than a mile from this beach.
Sterling's pants are fleece lined and come in 4 color options, he loves his "comfy pants."  He actually refuses to wear anything but comfy pants, I gave up a long time ago trying to dress him- haha.

Can we talk about their shoes?  When I saw Puma made a glitter version I was all over it.  They also come in a pink version but much to Frances Moon's dismay they were sold out of her size.  I personally like the gold version better.
Sterling's tee comes in 3 different colors and is similar to the Mini Boden line but less expensive.

I count my blessings everyday for these 2.

Scroll through to see some of my other favorite new arrivals for the kid's from Nordstrom.

I also wanted to share a recent outfit of mine this week.  I am a sucker for a white tee.  They are just so classic and never go out of style.  I especially loved the ruffle details on this one.  Sizing wise this runs on the large side with a loose boxy fit, I am wearing a size 1.  The booties are the ones I mentioned on my Favorite Buys of 2016 post.  They are so comfortable and go with everything!

Thanks to Nordstrom for partnering on this post.

New Year Detox Bowl

When we were in NYC a few months ago we had lunch at Jack's Wife Freda.  I had been stalking their instagram page for awhile and it was top on my list of places I wanted to try.   It certainly did not disappoint.   We all shared several dishes but the one I couldn't stop thinking about was their breakfast bowl.  Apparently the ingredients of this bowl change seasonally.  When we were there it filled with quinoa, spaghetti squash, greens, avocado and a poached egg.  All served with the most insanely delicious jalapeno avocado dressing.   The bowl seemed so simple yet it was so good.

This was my attempt to recreate a similar version.  I called mine a detox bowl because it is filled with so many veggies and grains that are good for you.  A perfect healthy meal for the New Year and for any of you who are trying to eat healthier.  Lots of vitamins and nutrients are packed in this gem of a bowl.

Everything can be made ahead of time.  You can store in different containers or all in the same large bowl like I did.  To serve I would slightly reheat (or bring to room temperature) everything except the avocado, radishes, and dressing.  I would probably cook the eggs right before serving.  The dressing is off the hook you guys!!   Like I want to put it on everything or just eat it by the spoonful.  In fact the next day I used some of the leftover greens and put a fried egg on top with the avocado dressing for breakfast.
Enjoy!

|| N E W  Y E A R  D E T O X  B O W L ||
This makes enough for about 4 bowls

- 1 cup cooked quinoa (I used red quinoa, but any kind works)
- 1 spaghetti squash roasted (see below)
- 1 watermelon radish thinly sliced
- 4 eggs hard boiled or poached
- 1 head kale
- 1 avocado sliced
- 1 pint cherry tomatoes

D R E S S I N G
- 1 Avocado
- 2 small jalapenos seeded and diced
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- juice of one lime
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 garlic clove minced
salt and pepper

Place all in food processor and blend.  If it is too thick add a little water.

For the Bowls:
Cut spaghetti squash in half and scoop out all the seeds.  Brush the insides with olive oil and then sprinkle with salt and pepper.  I like to drizzle just a touch of apple cider vinegar too (a trick I learned from Ina).  Place on a baking sheet flesh side up and bake at 350 degrees 1 hour or until fork tender.  Once cooled take a fork and shred the insides and scoop out.

Cook quinoa according to box.  It is usually 2 cups of water to 1 cup uncooked quinoa.  After it is done cooking drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and fluff with a fork.  For extra flavor you can cook the quinoa in broth.

Slice the cherry tomatoes in half.  Toss with olive oil and salt and pepper.  Place on a baking sheet and cook about 30 minutes at 350 degrees. You can cook these the same time as the squash.

Shred and de- stem the kale.  Saute in olive for about 5 minutes, just until lightly wilted.  Add a drizzle of balsamic vinegar at the end and toss.

Place the eggs in a bowl covered with water.  Bring to a boil then turn off and let them sit 10 minutes.  Then peel and slice.

Assemble all ingredients in a bowl and top with sliced radishes, avocado, eggs and Jalapeno Avocado dressing.

Hair Goals

I decided 2017 was gonna be the year I figured out how to do my hair.  Truth is I don't have great hair, it is thin and limp.  The fact that I bleach the crap out of it doesn't help either, but hey I like my blonde hair:)  Add that to the fact that I am lazy when it comes to hair, so my hair never really looks that great.   It is so easy for me to wash and straighten it but this year I want to learn do loose waves and branch out from my standard look.

After Christmas a friend told me about the Beachwaver.  She had used it on her hair and it looked AMAZING!   I ordered one and tried it on Friday and loved it!  If you follow me on instastories you saw my trial run.  The beach waver was apparently used at the Victoria's Secret fashion show- who doesn't want hair like that?  I watched a few You Tube videos to get the hang of it and  found it very user friendly.  What makes the beachwaver different from regular curling irons is that it rotates.  You place your hair in the clip at the bottom and then press a button and it rotates to curl your hair in the right direction.
It comes with two setting fast and slow.  I have been using the slow setting to get the hang of it but I think once you figure it out the fast setting would make it so quick to style your hair.

Nordstrom has the newest model but I found an older model for cheaper on Amazon.  I went with the 1.25 size.
This was a picture I snapped after my trial run. Not too shabby for my first try.

I get my hair done in a few week and I am highly considering this haircut.  I always chicken out and like having longer hair but feel like this isn't too short.

Then I see this picture and want long hair.  Her layers are perfection.  If only I could do a center part, I have this weird cowlick and can only part my hair one way.

A few current everyday hair favorites.

Hair goals

Oribe Texturizing Spray- I love this stuff and it smells amazing.   It really adds volume to your hair.  I use it on days I don't wash my hair and before I style it.

Oribe Bright Blonde Shampoo- For any blondes this shampoo is great.  It really helps preserve your color between hair appointments.

Living Proof Dry Shampoo- This is my favorite dry shampoo.  It helps me last several days between washing and it helps conceal my roots as well.

Wet Brush- I don't know what I would do without this brush.  Both kids have one too.  It makes brushing wet hair so easy!

Mason Pearson Brush- So I don't own this yet but every time I am home I use my mom's and love it.  As I mentioned before I have really fine hair.  When I use this is makes it look so much fuller.  It is on my list to buy this year.

Bio Ionic Round Hairbrush- I love this for drying my hair.  I have the large but my mom and sister both have the medium size as well for bangs and fly-aways.

Pureology Shampoo and Conditioner- I frequently switch up my shampoo and conditioner but this is always a go to.  I have been using it for years and love it.

Silk Pillowcase- I finally just ordered one of these after hearing rave reviews.

Hair Clips- I love these non-slip hair clips for drying my hair.

It's a 10 Leave in Spray- I have mentioned this many times on here but it's just that good.  I use this every time I wash my hair and for Frances too.  It makes detangling fine hair a breeze.  Oh and in the latest issue of People my girl Gwyneth said she loves it too.

Ellnet Hairspray- My mom got me hooked on this and I swear it is the best hairspray!

Oribe Color Mask- I use this once a week and afterwards my hair feels like silk.  I bought the trial size first to test out since it is pricey and then liked it so much I splurged for the larger size.

Chi Straightening Iron- This is my go to and I use it often.  I like that you can adjust the heat settings.  It always gets my hair smooth and straight.

Any other hair favorites I should try out??

Scenes From Our Weekend

Happy Monday!

I forgot to share a few picture from last weekend.  Our good friends came down for NYE with their 3 girls:)
My best friend Erin and I with our girls.

At Ellis Creek Fish Camp.
Getting excited for the big night. Confetti balloons are always a good idea.

We had a NYE lunch at Leon's.  I dream about their Siam Salad and fried brussels sprouts.

The kid's sharing a cheers of sparking cider for NYE.
Listening for fireworks.
NTE outfit, although I was in sweats by 10!

Back to this weekend!  Friday night I finally got to visit the new Goat Sheep Cow.  I can't wait til the weather warms up to enjoy their patio!
What I wore:
We shared a cheese plate, that was delicious.
I had the salad with "crack cheese" toast and let me tell you it was amazing.  They sell the crack cheese at their cheese shop and it will blow your mind.   We all also shared the roasted veggies.
We enjoyed this red wine.  It was really tasty.
We ended our night at The Ordinary.  Doesn't our waiter look just like Stiffler?

Saturday was a gym day and then we laid low because the weather was so cold and yucky.
My favorite high waisted Zella pants are out in a few new designs.  Loving this black stripe.
Two new juices I am obsessed with from Whole Foods.  My sister in law let me try the Mommy juice last week at her house and I immediately went and bought a bottle.

Sunday was another lazy day.  The weather was so cold here all weekend.
This sweatshirt is so cozy.  It is fleece and under $25!

I tried out Green Chef this past week.  I am typically not a fan of these meal delivery services.  I love to cook and shop for groceries so they never appealed to me.  My sister gave me a coupon for Green Chef and all I had to pay was the $9 shipping fee for 3 meals so I figured why not?  I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.  The food was really good.  I like that you can choose what category you want : Vegetarian, Omnivore, Vegan etc.  Plus it is all organic.  This was my first meal a spin on the Nicoise Salad and it was really yummy.

So true.
