Favorite Amazon Buys

I am always curious what other people buy at Amazon.  It can become an addictive site because they literally have everything.  I order all my books and cookbooks from Amazon but wanted to share a few other items that I love.  Many of these I order on a regular basis and some are one time buys. 

RMS Beauty Wipes

The best make-up remover ever.  I cut mine in half to last for more than one use.  Super moisturizing and they get every bit of make-up off. 

Sugarbear Hair Vitamins

 I swear my hair has come in fuller since taking these.

Le Pens

I am obsessed with these pens. I am such a nerd but these really do write the best.

3D White stripes

The price is always better on Amazon for white strips.  I use these 2-3 times a week and they really work.

Silk Pillowcase

I ordered 2 of these and I am loving them.   Super soft and I swear they help keep your hair looking good the next day.

Plus Plus Block

Sterling and Frances Moon love these building blocks.  They will sit and play with them for a long time.   They make great gifts too!  They also come in a bigger set as well.

Hand Held Steamer

This thing is amazing.  I never use an iron anymore.  It is perfect for getting out wrinkles and I love the compact size which makes it easier to store.  It is currently 64% off too!

Robo Chopper

I learned about this gadget in a cooking class almost 3 years ago and it is still a favorite kitchen gadget.  It is great for chopping herbs, nuts, onions and even making small batches of salsa.

Global Knives

These knives will change your world.  They are amazing.  They make chopping so effortless.  These are the 2 I use most often, worth every penny.

My sister had these in NYC and they came in so handy.  It was nice to have the option for longer length cords.  My outlet is not near the bed so I love having a longer one to reach my night table at night. 

Vitamix

I am head over heels in love this.  I have been using it everyday.  It blends perfectly and clean up is so easy.

Quinoa

I love this quinoa.  It is already cooked and all you do is mix the topping in.  I mix it up often with my Greek Salads or just eat it alone for a quick and easy lunch.

Thoughts For Thursday

Happy Thursday!  I can't believe this is last Thursday of the month already!

I finally decided to cut a few inches off my hair yesterday.  I was nervous but glad I finally did.  It feels so much healthier.

Several of you asked about my sunglasses in the picture above.  They are only $24 and I love the larger size.  They come in a few other colors as well.   Also loving my new Anna Beck ring, I adore her jewelry.  My nail color is OPI Taupe-less Beach.

Last night was my monthly girl's supper club.  We tried out Aya in Mt Pleasant which was delicious.  I had the Ramen Bowl and Avocado tacos and both were so good!

This little lady has so much attitude these days.  Gotta love her.

For some reason our hall bath tub water was not heating this week so I had to improvise and bathe Frances in the kitchen sink.  Not gonna lie it was kind of nice I could cook dinner and watch her at the same time.  I remember when I was young my grandmother always bathed us in her sink and we loved it. The Beauty Counter kids collection is my favorite, I especially love the conditioner for Frances.

I seriously can't get enough of Parenthood.  I am already worrying what I am going to watch when it is over.  I look forward to getting in bed and watching it every night! I just love all the characters.   Any other Netflix favs?

Butternut Squash Soup with Bacon and Goat Cheese | Mara Hoffman Sale

This soup was so good.  I always love butternut squash soup but the addition of bacon in this one took it to a whole new level.   I always buy the pre-cut butternut squash it saves so much time.  This can totally be made ahead and reheated before dinner.   The creamy goat cheese paired with the crispy bacon and the fresh chives are the perfect combo on top.

INGREDIENTS:

• 1 butternut squash (about 3 pounds), peeled, seeded and cut in 1-inch chunks
• 1 onion, diced
• 1 red bell pepper, chopped
• 4 slices bacon, diced
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

FOR THE SOUP

• 4 slices bacon, diced
• 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
• 2 1/2 cups chicken stock, or more, to taste
• 1/4 cup crumbled goat cheese
• 2 tablespoons chopped chives

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly oil a baking sheet or coat with nonstick spray.
2. Place butternut squash, onion, bell pepper and bacon in a single layer onto the prepared baking sheet. Add olive oil and garlic; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Gently toss to combine.
3. Place into oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until butternut squash is tender, stirring at halftime.*
4. Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add bacon and cook until brown and crispy, about 6-8 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
5. Heat a large stockpot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add butternut squash mixture and thyme, and cook, stirring occasionally, until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Stir in chicken stock and puree with an immersion blender.
6. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer until slightly thickened, about 5-10 minutes. If the soup is too thick, add more chicken stock as needed until desired consistency is reached.
7. Serve immediately, garnished with bacon, goat cheese and chives, if desired.
