Scenes From Our Weekend

We had a fantastic weekend.  It was jam packed with good food, drinks, and fun!

I finally picked up my Cane Back Chair from the Upholster and I am thrilled with the results.  I ended up going with Navy Velvet and brass nailheads.  Very traditional, I feel like I can jazz it up with a fun pillow.

I think I am going to order one of these Kelly Wearstler pillows for the back of the chair.  Which pattern do ya'll vote for Bengal Bazaar or Confetti?

Friday Night we were lucky enough to score tickets to one of the Food and Wine Festival Events at the Old JailHouse.  It was super fun minus the fact that it was unseasonably cold this weekend!  We were freezing our butts off outside,  but the delicious drinks helped to warm us up.

Chassity and I of course could not pass up a photo op with Captain Jack Sparrow.  He was pretty talented with the eyeliner.

The drinks at the party were so innovative and tasty.  They featured Rum and Tequila, of course the Tequila ones were my favorite!

Saturday we played some ball with our little man, he is pretty darn good with a baseball.  and yes it was like 40 degrees outside but he insisted on no jacket- so hard headed sometimes.

I had a fun girls dinner out at Cypress Saturday night and don't judge but I wore the same dress I wore Friday night.  I switched out the jewelry and it was totally different people I was hanging with so I figured what the heck!  Please tell me some of you are repeat offenders too with your outfits!

The dress is the BB Dakota Noland Dress that I got from Social Dress Shop, it is sold out there but I found it online HERE.  It is such a great dress, I obviously love it since I wore it two days in a row!  It is a great price too!

I became addicted to mini Oreos this weekend.  Sterling and I polished off a bag in 24 hours.  These things are so good!  I won't be buying them again anytime soon after I ate so many of them!  I have no self control around these tasty treats.

My painting from Jenny arrived and I am so smitten.  I can't wait to get her framed and hang her in our house!

Love this quote, Happy Monday!

Would I Reccomend This?

I have gotten several emails asking me specific questions about recent products I have bought, wondering if I love them etc.  I thought it would be fun to give you some reviews on the latest and greatest things in my life.

{Suave Keratin Shampoo and Conditioner}
I bought the Keratin kind specifically for colored hair.  I have to say I love this shampoo and conditioner.  They smell great and I can make it three days without washing my hair.  That is huge.  My hair is sleek afterwards as well and not frizzy.  I use them with the Suave Moroccan Oil.  At $3.50 a bottle you should totally buy this shampoo and conditioner.

{Himalayan Pink Salt}
I was intrigued by this salt after Caycee told me she loved it.  I found some at TJMaxx and promptly bought it.  The color is gorgeous and just looking at it on my counter makes me happy.  But the salt is amazing, it is more intense than regular salt and has an incredible flavor.  Amy had the genius idea of sprinkling it over chocolate desserts- because who doesn't love pink salt sprinkled on their plate.  I highly recommend this pretty and tasty salt.

We have made this recipe twice now, once following Ina's recipe and the second time following Pioneer Woman's recipe.  and both times it was horrible.  The chicken was tough, it was like the lime and tequila cooked the chicken while it marinated in it.  Makes me sick thinking about it, we both took one bite and threw the rest away.  Do not make this recipe it was gross!
DO NOT RECOMMEND!

{Breaking Bad}
Now that we have our Apple TV hooked up we have access to so many great shows.  There were so many I wanted to watch like Friday Night Lights, Downtown Abbey,  and Dexter but Matt chose Breaking Bad.  It is about a guy who gets lung cancer and decides to start selling meth so his family will have enough money when he dies- depressing right??  So I gave the show a shot because Matt was into and it is really good.  It is depressing but it sucks you in.  I actually look forward to our evenings when we watch it.  It is so different from anything else I normally watch.  We finished the first season and are halfway thru the second.  I say give it a shot!

I have talked about Probiotics before on here, I am a big fan.  I was lucky enough to get samples of these and they are great.  They really help regulate your digestion system.  Seriously if you are bloated or constipated take these and they will clear you right out.  They are great for keeping the healthy bacteria in system.  I try to take one everyday!  I can't say enough good things about probiotics.

{Olive Oil as Make-up Remover}
I can't remember who first introduced me to this idea- I think it was after my drug store post.  I figured what the heck I have some good olive oil I will give it a try.  Let me tell you it worked wonders.  The olive oil took every ounce of my eye make-up off and left my eye area feeling so soft and smooth.   It really moisturized the area where I feel like some make-up removers dry it out.   The olive oil seriously worked better than any make-up remover I have used.  Save your money and just use olive oil!  I most def recommend you try this!

Forever 21 has been getting in really cute maxis lately.  I snagged this one for $14.  It comes in olive and black.  It is so soft, it feels like a tee-shirt and so comfortable,  plus it looks cute.  I swear it looks like some other more expensive maxis I have seen for upwards of $200.   Definitely recommend this easy breezy summer dress.  Charleston peeps they have the Olive color in the store but not the black.

Have a great weekend!  We have a busy one filled with lots of fun plans!
I will report back on Monday,  hopefully with some pictures!
xoxo

I Want It Painted Black + 7 Wardrobe Essentials

I have been wanting to paint my front door black forever.  All these images I saved were my inspiration for my latest nap time project.

Black interior door are perfection, right??   In keeping with my New Years Goals to accomplish a house project every month, I tackled this one last week.  It was a super quick project.  Many of the sites I read said to prime the door first but I skipped that step (call me lazy) and honestly it turned out just fine.  I don't think it made a difference at all.  I used Sherwin Williams High Gloss Black and it took me three coats of paint.  It is important to let each layer dry before you apply the next layer or you will have streak marks. The paint dried pretty fast, I think I waited about an hour between each coat.   I could not be more pleased with the results!

The high gloss black made a world of difference!
Here is a view of the before and after:
(side note the trim around the door needs to be repainted white- hence why it looks dingy)
Next up I want a fancy brass animal door knocker for the front of the door.  I love Nancy's from Marcus Design.

I am also thinking about painting our bathroom cabinets high gloss black.  I just repainted the walls yesterday and I think high gloss black would look amazing with the new wall color.  What is everyone's thoughts on black bathroom cabinets??  My mom was not completely sold on the idea but I still am digging it.  This image I found on Pinterst is what inspired me.  I love the black paint and sleek hardware.

And here is our bathroom.  Thoughts on the black paint?  My only worry is I might get tired of it.  My other option is a fresh coat of high gloss white and of course new knobs and pulls.  And a new shower curtain, I am so over the giant monogram.  It was a wedding gift so it is a good 5 years old, time for something new!

Raspberry Crumble Bars

I have been wanting to make these bars ever since my girlfriend brought them over to our house a few weeks ago.  They are ridiculously easy to make, like it took me maybe 10 minutes to whip them together.  They are soooo good.  The Raspberry Jam, paired with the granola, almonds and shortbread is pure heaven.  Sterling loved them, they were a huge hit with the whole family.

This recipe is from The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook, Fool Proof, which so far is one my favorites cookbooks she had made.  Every recipe I have tried in it is amazing!  You will love these bars until you eat like 5 of them and wish you hadn't made them because you can't stop eating them!  (true story over here). Enjoy!

{RASPBERRY CRUMBLE BARS}
½ pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
¾ cup sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon kosher salt
10 to 12 ounces good raspberry jam, such as Hero
2/3 cup good granola without dried fruit
1/4 cup sliced almonds
Confectioners' sugar, for sprinkling
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Place the butter and sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and mix on medium speed just until combined. With the mixer on low, add the vanilla.

Sift the flour and salt together and, with the mixer on low, slowly add to the butter mixture, mixing until it almost comes together in a ball. Turn the dough out on a board. Lightly pat two-thirds of the dough evenly on the bottom of a 9-inch square baking pan and about ¼ inch up the sides. Spread with the jam, leaving a ¼-inch border. Mix the granola into the remaining dough with your hands. Break the dough into small bits, and distribute it on top of the jam, covering most of the surface. Sprinkle the almonds on top. Bake the bars for 45 minutes, until lightly browned.

Cool completely and cut into 9 or 12 bars. Sprinkle lightly with confectioners’ sugar.
