The time is almost here we find out the sex of our baby next Wednesday- don't worry I will most definitely announce it on here. I am not doing a gender reveal party or anything, I like the idea of just Matt and I being alone and finding out together. Something special about just the two of us sharing that moment. I thought it would be fun to test out some of the old wives tales and see how accurate and true they are. I don't honestly believe any of this stuff but it will be interesting to see what is accurate and what is not.
CHINESE CALENDAR:
The Chinese calendar determines the sex of your baby by entering your due date and age you were when you conceived. I have no idea how this can be accurate and even the site says it is a 50/50 chance (duh).
The Chinese chart says you're having a GIRL!
The Chinese chart says you're having a GIRL!
RING TEST:
If you have never done the ring test, you take a strand of your hair and place your wedding band on it. Have a friend hold it very still over your belly. If it goes in circles it is a girl, if it goes back and forth it means boy. It is kind of crazy how violent the ring moves one way or the other. Oddly enough I tried this not pregnant and it did not do anything so it must have to do with hormones or something.
Test said GIRL
BAKING SODA TEST:
You put baking soda in a cup and pee in it. Supposedly if the baking soda fizzles it is a boy, if it remains flat it is a girl. I had never heard of this one before but tried it out, mine was pretty much completely flat, a white ring formed around it but no fizzing.
Test said GIRL
MORNING SICKNESS:
Supposedly the sicker you are the more likely it is a girl. I don't believe this one at all because I have had several friends who have had boys that had bad morning sickness. With Sterling I had no morning sickness, this pregnancy I was very nauseous the whole first trimester. Never threw up but had a hard time eating, all food made me want to vomit.
If myth is true: GIRL
HOW YOU CARRY THE BABY:
If your belly hangs low (or in front), you're having a boy. If it's high (or wide in the middle), you're having a girl.
According this I am carrying like its a BOY
HEARTBEAT RATE:
If the baby's heart beats faster than 140 beats per minute, it's a girl.
Heartbeat at last visit was 145, right near cut-off
Test says GIRL
CRAVINGS:
If you crave sweet things it is a girl, sour things a boy. I don't really get this one. I honestly have had few cravings this pregnancy. Main difference between this pregnancy and with Sterling is I have wanted to eat healthier foods, I crave salads and fruit. With Sterling I ate junk the whole time, salads made me want to vomit. Also loved cheeseburgers while pregnant with Sterling and have not wanted one at all this time around. Not loving red meat.
BOY or GIRL who knows on this one
I know there is no way these can actually predict the gender and it is fun to try but I take no stock in the answers. I don't really believe in this kind of stuff, I mean how accurate can it really be?? Anyone tried these and have success with these?
Humor me and take a vote boy or girl?
I will reveal next week.
Oh and I am also over at Cassie's amazing blog Hi Sugarplum participating in her 20 questions series, while she is off on vacay! Check out my answers HERE!
Have a great weekend!

I saw your insta on this. Love it!! I say you are having a girl :)
I say girl! In which case I have some serious clothes to lend you.
So excited to hear the sex of baby Mason #2!
My vote's been for a girl too! Obvi she'd be the best dressed little girl ever!
I think it's a girl!
GIRL GIRL GIRL!!! I didn't do the ring test or the baking soda test but every single one of the old wives gender predictors were right for both my kids.
Although you make such freaking cute boys its kind of a disservice to women not to make another one as adorable as Sterling!
I can't wait to hear! I swear it's a girl! I'm pretty accurate with that ring test! ;)
GIRL!!!! No doubt love bug!
GIRL!
I can't believe how much that ring is moving, crazy! Can't wait to hear :)
The ring test is crazy!! I'd always heard of it but never seen it (or tried it). Can't wait to hear what you are having!!
I'll be so curious to see if the tests were accurate! Can't wait to find out.
I'm having a GIRL, so I think you are, too :)
GIRL!! The Chinese Calendar has been soo accurate for me and all my pregnant friends. I swear by it!
AHhh can't wait to find out! And loved reading your questions on Cassie's blog. You and Matt need to come out to Napa stat! We could be your wine tour guides!!! xo
Oh I love this! I think you are having a boy! I can't wait to find out what you are having!
Oh I love this! I think you are having a boy! I can't wait to find out what you are having!
So fun & exciting!!! Enjoy this time! My vote is girl also!!! So fun, can't wait to see how you design your nursery!
OMG so excited for you to find out!! by many of these tests, we're having a girl. but baby is also missing a kidney, which is more prominent in males. so who knows.
i'm always wrong when i guess, so i'll just wait for the announcement and pretend i was right :)
Looks like you're having a girl, haha! Can't wait to find out next week!
I hope it's a happy, healthy, beautiful little girl!
I could not stand the sight or smell of red meat when I was pregnant and I ended up having a girl! Sounds like a girl to me!
Well - it looks like all signs point to GIRL!!!! I'll be anxiously awaiting the reveal, although, either sex will be lucky to be entering the Mason household. xo
So excited for you and the family! Either way this is going to be one seriously cute babe. : ) I think that there may be something to the heartbeat test. With Hadley it was always 160 and above. When I was preg with James it was typically around 135-145. A few of my friends with both boys and girls have noticed higher heartbeats on the u/s with their girls.
I say girl :)

Life with Baby Sophia
All my tests said girl, and what do I have? Two little boys. I think you are having a BOY!
Girl!!
I'll say girl! I am wrong literally every time I guess but I'm sticking with girl! Looking forward to the reveal!
I think boy solely on how low you seem to be carrying!
My vote is boy, since I have two boys, and my belly looked just like yours both times (although the rest of me didn't look nearly as good as you do)!!!!
I think it is totally a baby girl!!!! =) I can't wait until you tell us the joyous news.
Ahhhhh i sitll think boy!
I put my bets on a girl! My first was a boy and 2nd a girl. I carried EXACTLY the same for each pregnancy. Good luck!
Looking forward to seeing the gender reveal post next week! I think baby #2 is a GIRL!!!
Congrats!
I think its a girl!

Wow, so an overwhelming majority "girl"??? Does that mean it's a boy? (c; I can't wait to find out, I swear that is the thing that keeps me going through that first 20 weeks and then shopping and planning gets me through the next 20! Can't wait to find out!!!
So excited to hear!!
My fingers are crossed for a little girl!!
What does your son say you are having? My daughter said we were having a boy from the get go. The ultrasound tech said that surprisingly the siblings are often right....and she was we had a son.
Can't wait to hear if it's a boy or girl! I think it's a girl ;)
I enjoyed that same rainbow from the pool! It really was a nice break from all of this stinkin' rain! From the way you are carrying, I'd say another boy, but I most definitely hope you get a girl to dress up. I have two boys and I still get sad about not having a little dancer {though I love my boys more than anything}. I was thinking about your blog name and now that "dirty diapers" ending will still be fitting since you are starting all over! :) www.styleoyster.blogspot.com / www.thegymbunny.com
I want you to have a girl so we can see what her hair would look like...and of course how you'd dress her!!! thanks for playing along on my series...I knew everyone would love your answers!
I say girl!! I just had a boy and ate like crap the whole time I was pregnant! I swear everyone is having girls this fall so that's why I'm saying girl
